During our proprietary certification process, we handle each pre-issued tape with extreme sensitivity. The full length of every tape is cleaned, retensioned and data-eradicated to ensure full security and equal quality of new tape. And unlike new tape manufacturing processes that only batch-test a small percentage of production units, DataSpan tests every tape we manufacture — one of the most thorough testing protocols in the industry. Our Eight-Point Process for 100% Certified Tape

Our exclusive eight-point process ensures that every tape is 100% drive-tested end-to-end for top performance when redeployed. During this process, we typically yield losses ranging from 10% to 30% – and we’re proud of this, because it shows our commitment to only processing tapes that meet our strict guidelines. Here’s how our guaranteed eight-point proprietary certification process works:

1) Source Verification

Each individual tape must go through a strict screening process to determine its eligibility for entering the process. Tapes are accepted based on brand name, an age of five years or less, and a documented history of solid maintenance.

2) Cleaning

Tapes are tissue-cleaned.

3) Retensioning

Tapes are retensioned to OEM standards.

4) Optical Scanning

Tapes are optically scanned for physical defects, including edge damage. All damaged tapes are immediately removed from the process, data-eradicated and disposed of.

5) Data Eradication

Standard tape cartridges are degaussed; high-density servo track tapes are overwritten with DataSpan’s proprietary code end-to-end, rendering any previous data completely unreadable.

6) Final Inspection and Validation

All tapes go through a Final Quality Control Inspection and Validation to ensure that any previously written data is eradicated. Tapes with any permanent errors are removed from processing and immediately disposed of.

7) Initialization and Labeling

Upon request, tapes are then initialized and labeled with volser numbers.

8) Redeployment

The process for creating DataSpan’s 100% Certified Tape is complete. Every tape is backed by our Performance Guarantee and we will replace any tape if you are not completely satisfied.

SAS 70 SAS 70 stands for "Statement on Auditing Standards" by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and determines the professional standards a service auditor uses in a formal report to measure the internal controls of a service organization.
